Garth M. Dalhen, PhD

Garth M. Dahlen, PhD, prepares, files, and prosecutes patent and trademark applications in North America, Europe, and Asia, handles post grant proceedings, prepares both Freedom To Operate and Invalidity Opinions, and prepares and negotiates license agreements.

Dr. Dahlen was employed at the firm of Birch, Stewart, Kolasch & Birch, LLP (BSKB) for more than 16 years, where he was initially a Patent Agent, and then, after going to night school at the Catholic University of America, he received his JD and became an Attorney. Dr. Dahlen became a Partner at BSKB in 2009. Prior to working at BSKB, he began his IP career in 1995 as a Patent Examiner in the heterocyclic arts at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

In addition to the JD degree, he holds a BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Maryland and a PhD in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University.

A member of the Virginia bar, he is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Dr. Dahlen has scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals in the area of palladium(II) catalyzed polymerization reactions using carbon monoxide as a comonomer.

Dr. Dahlen has extensively lectured to clients regarding changes in patent and trademark practice over the years, as well as having lectured at the Biotechnology and Chemical, Pharmaceutical Customer Partnership Meeting at U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on the Microsoft v. i4i case (June 9, 2011).
